On the occasion of Shakespeare’s birthday, Chicago Shakespeare Theater joins artists from across the city in celebrating the power of the arts to forge a path for a brighter future. A series of performances across an array of artistic disciplines at our Theater on Navy Pier and beyond will showcase that “all the world’s a stage.” In its 2nd year, this free virtual celebration offers us all the opportunity TO BE part of a shared vision for tomorrow, where greatness can be both dreamed and achieved.
Sponsors of TO BE will fuel the Theater’s nationally acclaimed arts in literacy and community engagement programs. Each year, these initiatives connect Chicago Shakespeare with more than 600 neighborhood partners across the North, West, and South Sides of the city, and support the work of teachers, bringing Shakespeare to life for tens of thousands of students. Funds raised will also make it possible for us to share this special virtual program with thousands of people around the globe on April 23, 2022.
Additionally, contributors of TO BE will be invited to The Spirit of Shakespeare Awards on Tuesday, April 5th. This in-person gathering will recognize this year’s honoree and feature additional performances.

As a nonprofit organization, Chicago Shakespeare works to embrace diversity, prioritize radical inclusion, provide equitable opportunities, and offer an accessible experience for all. On the Theater’s three stages at its home on Navy Pier, in classrooms and neighborhoods across the city, and in venues around the world, Chicago Shakespeare is a multifaceted cultural hub—inviting audiences, artists, and community members to share powerful stories that connect and inspire us.
