Join musical stars or today and tomorrow as we pay tribute to a remarkable 90-year history and embrace a future where quality music education is accessible to all.

Since 1931, The Music Institute of Chicago (MIC) has been providing high quality music instruction to learners of all ages and from all backgrounds, cultivating in thousands a lifelong engagement with, and love for, music. Our annual Gala provides the single largest source of funds for need-based financial aid and merit scholarships as well as crucial underwriting for music education programs, performances, and service initiatives that benefit thousands of individuals throughout the Chicago region each year.

Established in 1985 to honor the memory of the MIC founders, Dorothy and David Dushkin, this accolade been presented to some of this century's most revered and accomplished musical artists and educators.

Founded in 2010, the Cultural Visionary Award of Chicago is awarded to individuals who possess the qualities that six generations of the city's forbearers used to advance the civic and cultural presence of this great city—a strong spirit of philanthropy and a commitment to improving the quality of life for all citizens.

Established in 2014, the Colburn Award is presented to Music Institute of Chicago faculty members who exemplify the high standard of excellence set forth by Richard D. Colburn in his many musical endeavors.

About Music Institute of Chicago

Founded in 1931, the Music Institute of Chicago is one of the oldest community music schools in Illinois and was the first in the state to be accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. As one of the three largest community music schools in the United States, the Music Institute of Chicago serves students of all ages, abilities and ethnic and economic backgrounds and plays a significant role in the educational and cultural fabric of our community. With multiple campuses and teaching facilities in Chicago, Downers Grove, Evanston, Lincolnshire and Winnetka, as well as expansive community partnership programs in the inner city with the Chicago Public Schools and community-based organizations, more than 12,000 school-age children are reached each year.
