UCAN Introduces The “She Ro” Program For Women

Tonight, UCAN proudly announces the debut of “She Ro,” a targeted new program being managed by our comprehensive Violence Intervention and Prevention Services team, with funding from the State of Illinois.

She Ro is a focused, multi-level program designed to serve women in UCAN’s home community of North Lawndale who are involved in or at the highest risk of violence but demonstrate the “Courage To Change,” which is the program’s slogan.

With a focus on addressing mind, body and soul, UCAN’s case managers, outreach workers, victim advocates and therapists, along with health and wellness experts and spiritual advisors bought in to support the women, everyone is committed to a comprehensive approach to healing. That focus is critical as the participants embark on a courageous journey to positively change the trajectory of their lives. The team provides immediate coaching and support for issues that challenge individuals and provides fast referrals to peer organizations providing a particular service when needed.

The UCAN team tailors services to participants’ needs to help reduce violence against and by women in North Lawndale. UCAN is committed to supporting the program participants for as long as needed while encouraging them to become and remain receptive to the She Ro program.

MARQUISHA LITTLE

I’m a resident of North Lawndale. In this moment I’m working on completing my GED. I’d like to pursue a career as Neo-natal Nurse at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital. I’m excited about joining the Shero Program to gain the opportunities that the program holds for me and my future.

KIONNA KEMP

I’m a mother of a beautiful three-year-old, in which we both reside in the North Lawndale community. I was introduced to the Shero program through my experience with gun violence, and joined Shero so I could continue higher education and gain employment skills that would propel me into my preferred career field.

JASREAIL MILNER

I’m a mother who is expecting another loving boy and part of the North Lawndale area. I’ve joined the Shero team to become a better version of myself, and to be in a space where I can share my experience about hopefulness and how to live a life that is fulfilling. I’m dedicated to achieving all my goals for an urgent change that will provide me with happiness.

KAYLA MEDINA

I’m the oldest daughter in a family of predominantly women and have grown up in the west-side, in North Lawndale. I’ve joined Shero to surround myself in place where women can be championed and provided the skill set to pursue a safe and thriving lifestyle.
